Step-by-Step Building a Travel Loft for Racing Pigeons
Skilled DIY enthusiasts among breeders will build and furnish their dovecote themselves. The range of building materials in hardware and hobby stores is so extensive that the desire to build a dovecote in a DIY manner can be easily fulfilled. For the basic frame or the structure, ALUSTECK® offers the suitable solution based on the plug-in system principle.
The construction of a pigeon racing loft frame with ALUSTECK®
1.1. All products for the frame of the dovecote or racing loft when building your own dovecote buy in our online shop in your desired dimensions and designs.
You will then receive your individual aluminum construction kit in your desired dimensions from us.
1.2. Once the products have arrived, you only need to assemble all elements such as aluminum square tubes and the 3D square tube connectors by simply plugging them together and then firmly tapping them into place with a rubber mallet.
1.3. You can also equip the construction for your self-built dovecote with accessories such as hinges with flaps and other openings. Cover everything with aviary wire, partially use Plexiglas for any planned sliding doors, or clad the pigeon aviary with panel material to protect the animals from the weather.

Therefore, an opportunity for free flight was absolutely necessary. However, the increase in birds of prey now often makes it necessary for pigeon keepers to build a pigeon house with an aviary in the garden or to give up their hobby. The construction of a pigeon house with an aviary in the garden is particularly advisable for aspiring pigeon breeders. Keeping a pigeon indoors in an indoor aviary borders on animal cruelty and can at best be considered for a short time for sick or injured animals. FAQ: Build your own pigeon loft
Yes, with ALUSTECK® you can adapt the size and design of your pigeon loft exactly to your needs. This lets you optimally tailor it to different pigeon breeds or space conditions.
Good air circulation is essential to avoid moisture and stale air. Ventilation slots or fine-mesh grids in the walls and on the roof provide fresh air and a healthy climate.
A travelling loft should offer perches, nesting boxes and sufficient space for the pigeons. In addition, separate entrances or sluices are helpful for letting the pigeons fly in and out in a targeted manner.
At least 0.5 square metres of space should be allowed per pigeon to ensure enough freedom of movement. Larger aviaries or additional compartments make sense if the pigeons are trained regularly.
Daily cleaning of the floor and thorough cleaning of the perches and nesting boxes once a week are recommended. This keeps the environment hygienic and prevents diseases.
A self-built loft can be adapted exactly to the available space and individual needs. In addition, you can determine the quality of the materials yourself and save costs in the long term.
