You start the construction with the base structure. First, connect the aluminum profile with web (Pos. 9) with 2 x T-piece (Pos. 11). The profile with web later serves as an additional support for the construction, which is why it is aligned with the floor. Then, attach 2 x Right Angle (Pos. 10) to each of the two aluminum profiles (Pos. 6), before attaching the 4 x aluminum profiles (Pos. 7) to the Right Angles. Now you can assemble the individual parts of the construction. Subsequently, the four adjustable feet can be screwed in at the height of the supporting profile with web. Finally, you can now screw 8 x the aluminum profile (Pos. 8) using 16 x flange with pin (Pos. 12) as a storage surface.

After the base structure has been assembled in step 1, the roof structure is first put together. For this, 2x joint connectors (Pos. 13) are first fitted onto 2x aluminum profiles (Pos. 5) respectively, before the frame can be completed by connecting it with the two aluminum profiles (Pos. 1). Since the base structure and roof structure are now complete, they can be connected in the next step using the middle elements.

Now the middle elements in the form of 2 x Pos. 3 and 2 x Pos. 2 can be attached to the base element. It is important that the shorter aluminum profiles (Pos. 3) are attached to the front and the longer aluminum profiles (Pos. 2) to the back. Before the profiles are fully attached, the roof construction is first attached.

The roof construction can be attached to the middle elements from above, and pressure can thus be applied to the roof construction with a plastic hammer, so that the elements connect completely.

2 x flanges with spigot (item 12) are each slipped onto the two aluminum profiles (item 4). Subsequently, these can be screwed above the front middle elements (item 3) between the front and rear middle elements (item 2).

Even though there is design freedom in the choice of cladding, it cannot be omitted due to the static stability of the construction. In this case, we recommend all-purpose building panels, which have been cut to size either by yourself or directly at the hardware store. The panels must be pre-drilled 4mm and then fastened with self-tapping screws (Self-tapping screw 3.9x19mm Phillips with countersunk head) or same-colored rivets to the aluminum profiles. Self-tapping screws, as well as the rest of the materials (except for cladding), are available in our online shop. 

TIP: When using self-tapping screws, these can also be hidden by screw cover caps.

Customization Options

You can clad the wooden shelter with a variety of materials. For example, materials such as multiplex panels, wood-based materials with weather-resistant properties, WPC decking, HPL, or multi-purpose panels are suitable here. 

When using wood-based materials, you should make sure to seal them with weather protection paints or glazes for outdoor use.

To attach the cladding, you can use our practical angle connector for furniture construction made of plastic (Item No.: 262.55.550) in conjunction with self-tapping 3.5x13mm drilling screws (Item No.: AS02113513).

With the 2-in-1 solution, you not only save money but also have an extremely self-sufficient construction. The construction is very stable and durable due to the high-quality aluminum profiles.

Please note 


When constructing, you should ensure that the wooden shelter has a southern orientation so that you can achieve maximum light yield. If the wooden shelter is built freestanding, you will thus generate the maximum yield. 

However, the yield is also worthwhile if your shelter, together with the solar module, finds its place on the house wall. The yield may be slightly lower, but especially in cases of limited space and lack of options, this method is extremely interesting.

Mounting of the solar modules 

Tip: The mounting of the solar modules on the wooden shed can be implemented using various methods. If the solar module has designated areas for this purpose, it can be screwed to the aluminum profiles. Otherwise, it can be attached to the aluminum profiles using clamp fixation.

What to consider when building a firewood shelter

The correct planning of your wood shed is important to store your firewood properly. Therefore, you should consider some criteria during planning, which are listed below.

The right location 


Choosing the right location for the shelter can be crucial for protection against moisture. The open side of the wood shelter should ideally be oriented towards south/south-east. 

Firstly, Germany experiences a westerly wind weather pattern, which means that rainfall mostly comes from a westerly direction; furthermore, solar radiation is highest in the south, allowing the wood to dry better. With a south/south-east orientation, your firewood is well protected from moisture and the sun's rays dry the wood.
The Foundation 

Tip: If you do not build your shelter on a solid ground, you must first create a point foundation so that the structure does not sink.

Firewood shed with or without a back wall? 


Even if you build the wood shed against the south wall of your house, you should integrate a back wall for static reasons. Even for a freestanding firewood shed, a back wall is absolutely necessary to optimally protect the wood from moisture and precipitation.

Ventilation 


To prevent the firewood from molding and to allow moisture to optimally escape from the wood, good ventilation is important. You can achieve this through ventilation slots and holes in the back and side walls. Additionally, you should leave some space for air at the top edge of the walls. 
 
Likewise, the wood should not lie directly on the ground, so that air can also circulate underneath the wood.

Tip: To allow air to circulate under your wood, you should ensure that the construction finishes with a storage surface that is not in direct contact with the ground.

Do you need a building permit for your wood shed? 


Normally, you do not need a building permit for a simple wood shed. However, depending on the size, this may still be the case. Furthermore, regulations differ from region to region, so to be sure that you do not need a building permit, it is best to inquire with the responsible building authority.
