Camping box for the boot – configured to your measurements

Would you like to turn your estate car, SUV or van into a mini camper, but not with an off-the-peg box that leaves gaps left and right? With the ALUSTECK® online configurator you set the width, height and depth of your camping box to the millimetre and decide yourself how many drawers it gets: two or three columns side by side, one or two drawers stacked per column. You receive a ready-cut kit of aluminium profiles and connectors – the load-bearing frame of your box. Panel material and external accessories are not included.

Rear seat and box become one continuous sleeping surface

If your rear seat folds down flat, a step is almost always left behind it. That is exactly where the camping box comes in: it closes the gap to the end of the boot and extends the folded seat into a continuous sleeping surface.

For that to work, the height of the box must match the height of your folded rear seat – which is why you enter the height freely instead of picking from a list. Before ordering, measure at the highest point of the folded backrest and use that figure. The drawers remain usable over their full length, even with a mattress on top.

Storage that follows your equipment

Everything that otherwise slides loose around the boot disappears under the sleeping surface: cool box or compressor fridge, gas cooker, crockery, water canister, clothing. Because you size every drawer individually, the box follows your equipment instead of the other way round – one wide compartment for the cool box, two shallow ones beside it for kitchen gear and small items.

Euro containers fit as well if you allow for them when planning. Two measurements decide this:

• The usable width of a column is the clear internal width of the drawer. For a 600 × 400 euro container placed crosswise, enter at least 600 mm plus a little play.
• The clear depth of a drawer follows from the outer depth of the box minus 128 mm. At 728 mm outer depth exactly 600 mm remain – for a 600 euro container placed lengthwise, plan for a little more.

You also determine the height of the drawers yourself: with two compartments stacked, you set the height of the lower one and the upper follows from it.

Fixing in the vehicle

The two lower frame profiles across the width carry a continuous ledge that rests flat on the load floor. Through it the box can be fixed to airline rails or other rail and lashing systems in the vehicle. The matching adapter for your rail system is bought separately – it is not part of the delivery.

Please note: a box in the boot is cargo. Secure it against sliding and lifting before every journey.

How the configurator works

1. Enter dimensions: width, height and depth of your boot. The height matches the height of your folded rear seat if a continuous sleeping surface is to be created.
2. Choose the layout: two or three columns, one or two drawers per column, and the desired usable width for each column.
3. Cut the panels yourself: you receive all required cutting dimensions automatically with your order – for the top panel, drawer bases, sides, back panels and fronts.

Whether as a bed extension in an estate car, a kitchen block in an SUV or a storage module in a van – the made-to-measure camping box turns existing boot space into usable camping space. Because you assemble and clad the kit yourself, you remain completely free in material and appearance – and can rebuild the box later instead of replacing it.

Scope of delivery:

✔ All required aluminium profiles, cut to your dimensions, plus all corner and flange connectors. The kit is not delivered assembled. Assembly instructions tailored to your configuration are made available online in advance.

❌ Not included: panel material, telescopic full-extension slides, handles or push locks and adapters for rail systems.

Note on the depth figure:

The depth entered in the configurator is the outer dimension of the finished box including the 18 mm front. The aluminium frame is therefore 18 mm shallower. This way the finished box with its front fitted fits exactly into the boot you measured.

Accessories:

You supply these parts yourself – so you stay free in material and appearance:

• Top panel – 18 to 23 mm, for example birch plywood or chipboard
• Drawer base, sides and back panels – 9 mm, which is the groove width of the profiles
• Fronts – 18 mm, for example multiplex
• Telescopic full-extension slides – the configurator shows you the matching length
• Handles or push locks – for the fronts, to your taste
• Adapters for airline or lashing rails, depending on the vehicle

You can have panels cut to size at a DIY store or online. All cutting dimensions come with your order.
