Mercedes Conversion Sprinter, Vito, Viano - Campervan Self-build
Some people swear by the Mercedes car brand and would therefore be reluctant to do without it even on holiday. Mercedes Benz vehicles are excellently suited as motorhome base vehicles for self-conversion. Here too, there are various different models that are sometimes offered very cheaply as vans on the used car market.
MB Sprinter as base vehicle for self-conversion
The Mercedes Sprinter as a motorhome base vehicle is probably one of the most popular models for many DIY builders and camper enthusiasts.
Due to the large number of vehicles sold, the spare parts situation is very good worldwide. Therefore, plenty of good Sprinters can also be found in various versions and model years on the relevant sales platforms.
Whoever chooses the Mercedes Sprinter as a base vehicle can truly unleash their creativity when converting it into a motorhome and camper van, thanks to the generous space conditions. With so much space, in addition to a double bed, a seating area with a dining table, and the kitchen, a separate wet room with shower, toilet, and sink can also be planned.
The vehicle is also suitable for all those who want as much space as possible for DIY conversion with a small budget.
Mercedes Vito – ideal for self-conversion
The Mercedes Vito impresses above all with its agility and maneuverability. This makes the vehicle a suitable everyday companion even in city traffic – whether on journeys or at home.
The Vito from Mercedes Benz also offers convincing arguments in terms of spaciousness and interior finish.
The manufacturer Mercedes provides two different Vito series models for the roof. These factory-produced roof heights can already be sufficient to implement one's own ideas. This definitely saves a lot of money for a high roof. In addition, there is the very geometrically straight box shape. It is almost ideal for compact interior conversions.
Because the relatively high walls are quite straight, many furnishings can be realized without significant changes being made to the bodywork. A closed Vito transporter as a closed panel van is inexpensive, and even the cutouts for the windows are already present.
Mercedes Viano as a basis for the conversion into a camper van
The MB Vito particularly impresses with its appearance. In contrast to a VW Transporter, it differs mainly in height and width. It is lower but also somewhat wider. Especially the newer Viano model years from 2011 to 2013 are very good in terms of quality. We advise against earlier models before 2011, as these show some quality defects.
A Mercedes Viano conversion to a camper van, with a spacious bus tent for more living space, offers good utility and can also be used daily for commuting to work. Overall, the used Viano as a camper van is probably not yet offered in a wide selection on the market. Therefore, this model is ideally suited as a base vehicle for a more affordable self-conversion.
